A hundred years of talc

With a hundred years' experience of talc behind us, unrivaled applications expertise, and the widest product range on the market, we are the only talc producer that can meet all end-use requirements worldwide.

History

The company owes its roots to the tiny village of Luzenac in the French Pyrenees, where in the 1840s, a converted flour mill was used to grind talc ore from the nearby mine for sale to local apothecaries in the nearby city of Toulouse. Our mountain-top mine, Trimouns, has since become the largest working talc operation in the world.

Since then, we have grown to become the world's leading talc producer, supplying 15% of the world's talc from nine mines with the highest quality rock formations around the globe and fifteen processing facilities worldwide.

In Europe, we operate mines and processing facilities in Austria, Spain, Italy, Belgium and France which produce two-thirds of our total output. In the US and Canada, we operate three mines and five processing plants with a consolidated annual production of around 400,000 metric tonnes. Our Yellowstone open-cast mine in Montana is America's largest talc mining operation

In 2001, we branched out in Asia-Pacific, acquiring the Three Springs talc mine, the largest in Western Australia, which supplies high-brightness, high purity talc to the growth markets of the region. We continued consolidating our presence in the region, with the creation of a joint venture in Japan in 2004.

Owned by Rio Tinto for over 30 years, we are now part of the world's leading industrial minerals producer, Imerys, which acquired a 100% shareholding in the company on August 1st 2011.
