Fluxing agent
Imerys talc – a cost-effective fluxing agent to cut energy costs and CO2 emissions
Imerys talcs make highly active fluxing agents.
Used in combination with feldspar, talc brings magnesium oxide to the ceramic flux which:
- lowers fusion temperature
- speeds up the vitrification process
- improves composition viscosity
- increases surface tension
- stabilizes thermal expansion – important for large format tiles
This means substantial savings in terms of energy and CO2 emissions through:
- reduced firing cycles – energy savings can be as high as 90 kilocalories per kilogram of product for stoneware tiles for example
- decreased firing temperatures – generally, between 25°C and 35°C lower, leading to potentially lower maintenance costs
Talc, such as our Fluxite® product, is ideal for glazed and porcellanato floor tiles and makes a cost effective alternative to calcium carbonate in fast firing bodies such as monoporosa floor and wall tiles.
